Sexy primes / 101 posts
Last week’s dispatch was my 100th post on The Dish! I didn’t realize the number until just now, so I will instead celebrate today’s post, the 101st.
Upon asking Wikipedia to school me on the significance of 101, I learned of a new concept: sexy primes. According to number theory, sexy primes are prime numbers with a difference of six, such as 101, 107, and 113 — the 11th sexy prime triplet. To be honest, I don’t really understand why we need a name for the concept of prime numbers with a difference of six, but I love that one exists, and that it starts with ‘sexy.’ Mathematicians, you goofballs.
To me, 100 is perfect and complete, and 101 is alluring and complicated, and I will always be more interested in what happens after 100 than in 100 itself. So today let’s celebrate 101 posts by pushing past 100 and continuing to write!
