Creative Rest!
Taking my first-ever vacation from The Dish
Hello! I’m taking my first-ever vacation from writing The Dish since I started it over four years ago, in September 2021. I’ll be off for three weeks, spending time with my family and Teo’s family, celebrating Christmas and a dear friend’s wedding, then traveling for a little while.
It feels like the perfect time to take a break — when the evenings come early and so many of us are lucky enough to slow down and spend time with the people we love. When you enjoy doing something as much as I enjoy writing these letters to you, it’s easy to forget that it takes a creative toll. There’s never a week when I’m not searching for time to work on The Dish and thinking about what I might write next.
I’ve realized that even the best sort of work is still work, so I’m looking forward to a little break from all of that.
I’ll be pausing paid subscriptions for one month, and will resume them in mid-January when I’m back on the clock. When I return: more home cooking, personal reflections, recommendations, illustrations…all delivered with new energy. In the meantime, I’ll still be lurking on Substack (just less so), reading other newsletters and sharing Notes here and there.
Thanks for being here and for your patience!
Much love and happy holidays,
Phoebe

Bravo and congrats on a great year of news, recipes and all of it. I’ll be making an annual MORE/LESS list and think of you come January 1.
