Some good news
Growing The Dish, a restaurant recommendation, my go-to cake, and a list of nice things
Friends,
We made it to 400 Dish subscribers yesterday! My initial reaction was to celebrate, but then I started feeling insecure, telling myself that 400 really isn’t a big number and that I should have more subscribers at this point in my Substack career (wah wah wah wahhhh). However! I’m glad to report that today I’m back to celebrating. 400 is an accomplishment, and what’s even more of an accomplishment is that I’ve written this newsletter every week for over two years. I’m proud of myself for committing to this habit and for gathering over 400 of you by the end of 2023. Let’s see what we can do in 2024!
On the agenda today, we have a dare-I-say-perfect Brooklyn restaurant recommendation, a go-to cake, and a list of nice things.

There are never reservations available, but my friend Bel showed me the way, by which she meant waiting by the front door just before 11 am to have lunch right when they open. I didn’t mind! Once I adopted the mindset that I’d be eating tartare at 11 am, it felt correct to eat tartare at 11 am. The Four Horsemen is a self-proclaimed wine bar, but ordering wine is by no means essential; the food is so very excellent and worth pursuing regardless of wine.
